Plot[]
Issue 1[]
The issue begins with a scattered sequence of Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona Lucia in battle with Stéphane D’aureville inside a crumbling Isu temple in 1700. From the perspective of Horatio Pierce, Küpeyakwüskonam's memories are scattered and disjointed. The voices of Jason and Hayley can be heard, commenting on Horatio's vitals and how further exposure to this memory could be detrimental, Hayley orders Jason to remove Horatio from the animus.
Returning to Cuba in the present, Horatio asks if this is another Ari situation, in reference to his previous inability to access a certain memory of the Viking Hidden One due to the subject's stress at the time. However, Jason refutes this and states that it is something different, explaining that Küpeyakwüskonam is exhibiting a memory within the current event he was in at the time. Jason further explains that the animus is having difficulty interpreting the Küpeyakwüskonam's simulated memories with the memories he actually experienced at the time.
Having been in a similar situation before, Horatio gathers that they're going to have to synchronise with the memory that Küpeyakwüskonam was experiencing to fully interprete the actual memory they need to access. Jason confirms this and with a sigh, Horatio readies himself to access the memory in question.
In a series of montages of Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona hunting Templars, Küpeyakwüskonam narrates an overview of his and Ramona's movements in the two years since the second near-destruction of his village. Küpeyakwüskonam reveals that they have been eradicating the Templar presence in New France, while also keenly searching for Stéphane D’aureville, but he eludes them at every twist and turn.
It is September 5 1697, York Factory, Rupert's Land, Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona are caught in the midst of the Battle of Hudson's Bay between the French and English. Ramona hires a privateer vessel to take part in the battle, a brig named the Victoire du Faucon, after having learned of the Templar Jean Outelas' involvement in the battle. During the battle, the helmsman of the Victoire du Faucon is killed and Küpeyakwüskonam is forced to temporarily pilot, through the guidance of the captain.
Küpeyakwüskonam navigates the Victoire through the battle, attacking Outelas' supply ship the L'Esquimau, and destroying their mast with a chain shot. Climbing atop the Victoire's mast, Ramona prepares to board the L'Esquimau shortly before Küpeyakwüskonam rams into it. Upon doing so, Ramona leaps across and on to the L'Esquimau's damaged mast and locates Outelas on the deck below. Meanwhile Küpeyakwüskonam and the privateers also board and cause enough chaos to provide Ramona the opportunity to kill Outelas.
Ramona manages to scale her way down to a low enough level where she can assassinate Outelas from above. Following this she asks what the Templar's stake in the War of the Grand Alliance was, Outelas explains that the Templars aimed to expand their influence from the devastation of the war, however, the Assassins were hard at work opposing them. Following this, Ramona then questions D'aureville's whereabouts to which Outelas confesses that D'aureville is said to arrive in Québec to meet with Grand Master Guillaume Couture to discuss a lead on the second Eden Engine within a week's time.
Following this, the English navy begin open firing on the L'Esquimau and the crew of the Victoire are forced to escape. In the midst of their escape, Küpeyakwüskonam is caught in the bombardment of the L'Esquimau and injured. He is then rescued by Ramona and they narrowly make their way back to the Victoire and make their escape to open sea shortly before the French defeat the English.
Issue 2[]
Leah Chavez emerges from the animus in present day and is met with Berg's presence. Berg irritatedly asks why Chavez is unable to directly access the memory needed to find Eden Engines. Leah explains that due to Ramona not being an ancestor she cannot simply pick and choose what memories to access, and reliving Ramona's memories from her DNA sample, she must sequence her memories in a linear fashion.
She asks if Abstergo have managed to locate any other Eden Engines, or at the very least, Kyle North. Berg informs her that Abstergo hasn't located either and states that their best chance of locating the Engines and drawing out North are locked away in Ramona's genetic memories. After taking a short break and refreshing herself, Leah prepares to re-enter the animus but Berg stops her. Leah is curious as to why, Berg informs her that he noticed that she had displayed signs of the bleeding effect in Cuba and that if Pierce and his allies were to get in their way again, Leah would need to stop him for good.
Berg then directs her to spar with him, complying the two spar and while Leah displays some talent with Ramona's skills, she is still handily defeated by Berg. Critiquing her style, Berg states that she will need to increase her animus sessions to better inherit Ramona's abilities. As well as this, he will regularly test her to see her improvement. With that, he tells her to return to the animus.
Some days after the Battle of Hudson's Bay, Ramona is tending to Küpeyakwüskonam during his recovery from the injuries he sustained on the L'Esquimau. Ramona informs him that the injuries he sustained were minor and that he only suffered a small concussion. Küpeyakwüskonam thanks her and, in a moment of vulnerability, he confesses to having been glad that she was by his side. The two share a brief moment and almost kiss but stop when they hear that the Victoire is about to dock in Québec.
Following that, Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona learn of the location of the intended meeting and time through eavesdropping and following various guards in Québec. The pair head to the location and tail both D'aureville and Couture through the streets of Québec. Listening in on the conversation between the two Templars, Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona learn that the second Eden Engine may potentially be located in an Isu temple near a Huron village somewhere in the west of Ontario.
Küpeyakwüskonam moves to kill them but is stopped by Ramona, he expresses confusion that now would be the perfect opportunity to kill them both. Ramona states that killing the both of them won't stop the Templars' search for the Eden Engines, locating them and removing them from Templar hands is the main priority right now. Küpeyakwüskonam argues back, stating that his main goal is to eliminate the Templar presence and keep the settlers away from his tribe. Finally, Ramona settles the argument by reminding him that he's seen a small power of what a single Eden Engine can do, and what it did to his village, they needed to stop the Templars from acquiring all three.
Begrudgingly Küpeyakwüskonam agrees and the two begin to make their way to the Huron village mentioned by D'aureville and Couture.
Issue 3[]
Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona locate the Huron village near a coastline in what would come to be known as Windsor. Upon arriving they are met with hostility by the Huron people, Küpeyakwüskonam attempts to communicate peace in his native tongue, however the Huron are unable to understand the Cree language. Before things could get worse however, a village elder orders the warriors to cease hostility and begins communicating with Küpeyakwüskonam in Cree, mentioning he is a "long way from home". Küpeyakwüskonam apologises for intruding and explains that he is searching for a "temple built by the spirits" as it is said to be located nearby.
The village elder reveals that their village is sworn to protect it, and asks how he knew about it and what he wants with it. Küpeyakwüskonam confesses that he wants to recover it and keep it from the hands of the French who wish to misuse it. In disbelief, the village elder mentions that the French aided them in their war with the Iroquois. Ramona then steps in and blurts that it was all a ruse, the entire conflict was a cover to find the artifacts mentioned. Understanding French, the village elder is surprised that she would speak out against her people.
After some deliberation, the other village elders convene and discuss their next steps. Eventually, they decide that Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona are trustworthy, agreeing to show them the location of the Isu temple. Upon arriving however, the pair are unable to access it without any specific Pieces of Eden to open the entrance, the village elder then proceeds to unveil an Apple of Eden, using it to unlock the temple.
The village elder wishes them luck and Küpeyakwüskonam thanks him in return before he and Ramona enter the temple. Navigating the temple, the two come upon a central chamber where the Eden Engine lies. Ramona warns to tread carefully as they do not know how the Eden Engine will react to them. Heeding her warning, Küpeyakwüskonam cautiously approaches the Engine and reaches out for it.
Upon touching the device, the Eden Engine reacts to Küpeyakwüskonam's high count of Isu DNA and transports them into the Nexus. There, they are met by Magni who Küpeyakwüskonam immediately deduces as the 'Creator God' that spoke to his father prior to his birth, Magni confirms this. Küpeyakwüskonam asks if his hunt for the Eden Engines were his 'great destiny' and Magni also confirms this. Ramona asks what it is Magni wants, he begins to explain that they must acquire all of the Eden Engines and hide them away. Then, Magni speaks directly to both Horatio and Leah through Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona, urging them to put aside their differences and see the bigger picture - that Shakuru and Pah needed to be stopped at all costs, or else they will wipe out humanity.
Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona express confusion at who else Magni is talking to, as there is no one else present. However, Magni neglects to divulge further information and the pair are regain consciousness back in the temple, some hours had passed. Upon waking up, the two immediately grab the Eden Engine and make their way back to the temple entrance.
The pair are immediately attacked by D'aureville carrying a Sword of Eden, shooting Küpeyakwüskonam with an energy blast from the Isu weapon. Ramona shoots her revolver at D'aureville but the Templar Sage instantly translocates behind Ramona. She reacts quickly and evades a fatal attack from D'aureville, before engaging him with her rapier. During their duel, Küpeyakwüskonam struggles to get back to his feet but draws his bow and shoots an arrow at D'aureville. Striking his shoulder, D'aureville translocates to Küpeyakwüskonam and strikes at his chest with the Sword of Eden, intending for him to suffer and bleed out.
Ramona attempts to charge D'aureville but she is knocked back by another energy blast from D'aureville's Sword of Eden and is knocked out. D'aureville then retrieves the second Eden Engine and uses their combined power, triggers a small earthquake and in-turn a small tsunami that follows. Fighting against his injuries, Küpeyakwüskonam gets up to his feet and wakes up Ramona, the two fled the during the earthquake and narrowly escaped before the tsunami hit. However, Küpeyakwüskonam felt immense regret at being unable to help the Huron village that was sure to be caught up in the tsunami.
Now safe, Küpeyakwüskonam's adrenaline wears off and his injuries begin to settle in which cause him to pass out.
Issue 4[]
Back in Cuba, Horatio exits the animus and is met with a joke from Jason, stating that Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona were terrible at retrieving Eden Engines. However everyone ignores his joke and moves on to the elephant in the room, that being Magni's message to both him and Chavez, also realising that she must be currently reliving the genetic memories of Ramona. Erica agrees with Magni's message, that currently, a temporary alliance would achieve results quicker as opposed to being in contention with each other as well as with the Isu. Hayley agrees, however, she expresses concern that the Templars may not see the bigger picture. Horatio then adds that they at least have to try. Jason volunteers to make contact. Hayley tells him to do it.
Meanwhile in France, Leah and Berg are sparring once more and the two discuss the recent footage. Leah expresses her bewilderment at being directly spoken to by a member of the Isu through the genetic memories of another, Berg explains that this is not an uncommon occurence, recalling of similar experiences by the Assassins Clay Kaczmarek, Desmond Miles, Charlotte de la Cruz and more, and that these indiviudals were referred to as Ciphers. Leah then questions if they should indeed work with the Assassins, at least temporarily, expressing that it made sense in her eyes.
Berg admits that this would not be the first time he allied with the Assassins, Leah then states that she remembered reading the reports on Resurrection Day. During their sparring session, Leah accidentally triggers Eagle Vision which she inherited from Ramona. Overwhelmed by her sudden activation of the sixth sense, she is quickly defeated by Berg. Leah explains to Berg what had just happened which he reveals to her the nature of Eagle Vision.
Following this, Leah receives a notification ping on her laptop. Leah and Berg then find out they have been contacted by Jason Hart, his message details their shared information and Magni's message to both groups. Jason's message then gives them the choice of working together or remaining at odds, providing a specific meeting location should they choose to ally together. Leah asks Berg what they should do and the Master Templar states that it is in humanity's best interest if the Assassins and Templars come together this one time. However, he adds that once the North and Isu threat is dealt with, Pierce and Yasutake's cell are to be disposed of immediately and if possible, acquire genetic material from Pierce.
A day later, the Assassins are at the meeting spot located in Cuba. Erica expresses her apprehension to this with Jason adding that they could have just handed themselves to Abstergo on a silver platter. However, Horatio confidently rebukes this stating that the Templars are, in a sense, in service to humanity like they are and that the Templars know that the Isu are the greatest threat to humanity right now.
Berg responds to this, agreeing with Horatio as he emerges from the shadows alongside Leah. Berg informs the Assassins that this is not his first time working alongside their Order for the greater good. Leah then adds that they will be able to locate the Eden Engines faster together than alone, Hayley shows her awareness that once the Isu threat is dealt with and asks what Abstergo plans to do with the Eden Engines after. Berg confirms that the capabilities of the Eden Engines are too dangerous for humanity to hold, revealing that Abstergo plans to keep them separated but locked away. Leah asks if the Assassins have the Eden Engine they recovered from the museum and Horatio confirms that they do but it has been hidden.
Meanwhile at the Isu's hideout, North is tending to Shakuru's wound sustained by Horatio. Shakuru expresses her rage at Horatio and the humans calling them unruly and barbaric for daring to go against their masters. Following her rant, she demands that North kill Horatio should they encounter him once again which North agrees to. North then reveals to Shakuru that he may have encountered the Eden Engines in one of his prior lives, explaining that once he bore witness to the Eden Engine with his own eyes, it triggered a memory from the past.
It is then revealed that D'aureville is an ancestor of Kyle North and a reincarnation of Pah. After further accessing his memories as D'aureville, North reveals that during his lifetime, D'aureville collected a treasury of Isu artifacts and technology in hopes of opening the Conservatory and North proposes that they locate the hidden stash and use it in their inevitable re-encounter with the Assassins and Templars.
Issue 5[]
In France, the Assassins are brought over to Ramona's crypt where they are to begin working with the Templars. After sharing their discoveries within the animus, the two groups come to realise they have recovered similar information. Following this, Horatio and Leah return to the animus where their sessions are to be monitored side by side in the hopes of finding out information one or the other may not have access to due to the constraints of Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona's memories.
The pair are placed in December 1699, Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona are split up, eavesdropping on a variety of soldiers to find information on D'aureville. Küpeyakwüskonam tails a soldier, who inadvertenetly revealed he knew of D'aureville's movements. Following him into a tavern, Küpeyakwüskonam threatens the soldier, covertly placing his Hidden Blade at the surface of his back he demands to know where D'aureville is. The soldier reveals that D'aureville was set to journey to Pachena Bay under the guise of allying with the Huu-ay-aht tribe.
Knowing that this was a ruse and that D'aureville had likely discovered the location of the final Eden Engine. Meeting back up with Ramona, Küpeyakwüskonam informs the Assassin of what he had learned, telling her that they need to go to Pachena Bay. Ramona acknowledges this, however, she proposes they inquire more information such as learning the specific coordinates of the Eden Engine. A day or so later, the pair locate a Templar agent and prior to assassinating him, they learn of the Eden Engine's coordinates inside an Isu temple located deep beneath Pachena Bay.
They begin preparations to make the journey from Québec to Vancouver by horseback. Arriving in Pachena Bay on 26 Januray 1700, Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona locate a cave entrance just outside the Huu-ay-aht village, which on the coordinates is said to be the location of the temple housing the Eden Engine. Travelling inside it, the pair traverse their way toward the temple, discovering that the cave that led to the temple was an underwater network. Finally entering the temple's interior, Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona suddenly felt their surroundings begin to rumble.
Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona begin to rush their way through the temple, worried at the capabilities of D'aureville with all three Eden Engines. Reaching the centre of the temple, the pair discover D'aureville in the process of merging the three Eden Engines.
Issue 6[]
Horatio and Leah are pulled from the animus, much to Berg's dismay as he argues time being of the essence. However, Hayley argues that Horatio and Leah's health and mental state are a priority as well, overexposure within the animus would make them liabilities if they were to re-encounter North and Shakuru again. Following this, Erica mentions that she noticed the day Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona are in Pachena Bay was the same day of the Cascadia earthquake of 1700. She reveals that the earthquake caused a tsunami which struck the west coast of North America and the coast of Japan, including Pachena Bay, wiping out the Huu-ay-aht village with no survivors.
Expressing their shock, Leah is surprised to find out that Ramona and Küpeyakwüskonam were capable of surviving that earthquake. Berg then states that if the Eden Engines are powerful enough to cause a 9.2 magnitude earthquake, North and Shakuru acquiring all three Eden Engines was more dangerous than they realised. When combined, they had the potential to wipe out all of humanity through creating large scale earthquakes across the world. Horatio then recalls Canaqueese telling Küpeyakwüskonam that the Eden Engines were sought for in order to "create a new world", Leah adds onto this and realises that the Eden Engines must have restorative properties as well as destructive.
Mesmerised, Jason comments on how the Eden Engines are one of the most powerful Pieces of Eden in existence. Hayley begrudgingly adds that Berg was correct in wanting to keep them out of both Assassin and Templar hands. To Berg's dismay, Hayley proposes that Horatio and Leah take a break while she and Berg attempt to formulate a plan on what to do with the Eden Engines upon recovery. Leah asks Berg if they are going to spar later on today to which Horatio offers as he "needs to stretch his legs a bit". Reluctantly, Leah agrees.
A little while later, Horatio and Leah head outside and begin sparring. Horatio is clearly going easy on her which she notices and tells him not to, complying he puts in his full effort and quickly floors her, much to Leah's annoyance. Helping her up, Horatio asks Leah why she joined the Templars stating that she seemed young and "not the Templar-type". Leah responds stating that the Templars aren't emotionless evil white dudes like the men he's killed in his ancestor's memories, she further expresses her opinions on humanity and how inherently flawed they are and were too barbaric to be left to their own devices.
Horatio comments on how that's a bleak way to look at it, she asks him how he views it and how its any better than anarchy. Horatio responds that he views humanity like a child. That, like a human child, humanity collectively must grow and mature their behaviour as they age similar to a baby growing into an adult. And because of this, he believes that humans are capable of ultimately evolving from their barbaric nature through nurture and education. Leah asks how that's possible through freewill, seeing as humans without any structure or order turn to things such as piracy, revolution, murder, rape and more.
Correcting her, Horatio explains that the Assassins do not fight for anarchy or total freedom, agreeing that it does invite chaos. After having experienced the lives of multiple Assassins and experiencing their own thoughts and feelings on what it means to be an Assassin, he explains that the Assassin's Creed and its phrase of "Nothing is true, everything is permitted" is merely a guideline on how to practice freedom responsibly, as well as merely being an observation of human existence. He expresses true peace should be achieved through the freedom of learning from one another and acquiring wisdom and knowledge that allows it, as opposed to the Templar goals of enforcing peace.
Horatio then shares his views on the Templar ideology, stating that he empathises with their wish for peace but heavily disagrees with their methods, sharing his belief that an enforced peace is not true peace and that not only does it rob us of our freedom, but also our individuality, essentially our humanity. Leah meets his response with silence, taking in everything that Horatio said, having her view of the Assassins challenged by Horatio and spending so much time in the memories of an Assassin had begun to waver her belief in the Templar ideals. However, she kept this information to herself, meeting Horatio's ideologies with a dry joke that he was "practically a hundred years old" with "all the old dead men" in his head.
Leah then confesses that Horatio isn't as bad as she thought she'd be...for an Assassin, however she calls him an "asshole" for "beating her up" in Cuba. To which Horatio accepts, taking the slight on the chin. With that, he offers to spar again.
Issue 7[]
The following day, Horatio and Leah return to the animus and pick up where they left off in their respective research target's memories in 1700. Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona see that D'aureville is in some trance like state as he is in the process of holding the three Eden Engines together during their merging process. The pair cease this opportunity to assassinate the Templar general, however, it appears as if the Eden Engines have currently granted D'aureville with some supernatural abilities, eyes glowing golden D'aureville senses the two and immediately attacks them with energy from the Eden Engines.
D'aureville proclaims that he will not be stopped and that he will use the power of the Eden Engines to reunite with his loved one, ignoring his ramblings Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona devise a plan with the Assassin keeping D'aureville distracted while the Cree warrior separates the Eden Engines. Enacting their plan, Ramona evades D'aureville's energy based attacks while Küpeyakwüskonam sneaks around to get to the Eden Engines. Upon reaching the Eden Engines, Küpeyakwüskonam begins to forcibly separate the three Pieces of Eden.
Due to the high count of Isu genes in his DNA, Küpeyakwüskonam is able to interface with the Eden Engines and begin removing them. As he does so, he is plagued with a series of recordings encoded into the Eden Engines, appearing to him as visions, Küpeyakwüskonam witnesses the creation of the Eden Engines by Isu scientists and learns of its origins and why they were hidden. At the conclusion of these visions, Küpeyakwüskonam successfully separates the Eden Engines which cause a discharge of energy which makes the Isu temple lose its structure and begin to collapse, as well as removing D'aureville's temporary gain in power.
Recovering their bearings, Küpeyakwüskonam, Ramona and D'aureville flee the temple as its collapsing around them. Before beginning his escape however, Küpeyakwüskonam brings the three Eden Engines with him. The trio manage to successfully escape the temple and the cave that leads inside it as the entire cave becomes closed off as a result of the temple's destruction. D'aureville unsheathes his Sword of Eden and attacks the pair once more, claiming that even if they kill him, it won't stop him. Confused at what he is talking about, the warrior and Assassin continue to ignore him, fighting him back.
Their fight with D'aureville draws the attention of the Huu-ay-aht people who's village is close by. During their fight, D'aureville manages to land a strike on Küpeyakwüskonam which inadvertanly ripples into one of the Eden Engine's he is carrying, forcing it to send off a seismic blast. The surrounding seismic blast begins to cause an earthquake which reaches all the way out into the Cascadia subduction zone. In the chaos of the earthquake, Ramona manages to successfully assassinate D'aureville who before dying reminds them that they still have not stopped him. Despite D'aureville's death, the earthquake continues but Küpeyakwüskonam is able to put a stop to it through the use of an Eden Engine.
Following the earthquake, the pair notice a tsunami beginning to approach the beach. Upon seeing it, the Huu-ay-aht begin to desperately flee with Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona doing the same as they make their way to their horses. Climbing atop their horses, the pair flee into the forest in front of the bay. The horses sprint at their top speed but are unable to outrun the tsunami which force Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona to leap off of their horses and make their way to higher ground by freerunning to the top of a large tree. The pair wait it out as the tsunami devastates the area, watching in horror as it wipes out the Huu-ay-aht villagers.
Issue 8[]
A month and a half later, Küpeyakwüskonam is inside a tavern where he is fidgeting with one of the Eden Engines and it returns him to the Nexus. He is met by Magni once more who congratulates his descendant on successfully playing his part in putting an end to Shakuru and Pah's schemes, Küpeyakwüskonam expresses his confusion but Magni assures him he need not worry as his actions have now ensured the continued existence of humanity. Magni then orders Küpeyakwüskonam to hide the three Eden Engines, far apart from each other so that Horatio may find it in the future.
Küpeyakwüskonam remarks on the lives lost in the search for the Eden Engines - Louis, Mahikan, his village, the other tribes - he questions if it was all worth it. Magni does not grant Küpeyakwüskonam with a satisfying enough answer which later leads the warrior to question whether his actions had an impact. He confessed that his initial goal of driving out the colonists was a fool's errand, an impossible task, and that he'd come to accept that some years ago. However, he wanted to know if his and Ramona's work to eradicate the Templar's was enough to ensure the safety of his people. Magni once more remains coy about the fate of his people, leaving Küpeyakwüskonam frustrated.
Following this, he is returned to reality and greeted by Ramona who informs her that the ship back to France is preparing to leave soon. Accompanying her to the port, he asks her to reconsider staying but Ramona refutes this stating that she has a duty to the Brotherhood, that she had achieved her and Louis' goal in New France of keeping the Eden Engines from Templar hands. Ramona then expresses her thanks for Küpeyakwüskonam's aid and sticking by her through all these years, being there for her when she needed him the most.
The two stare longingly in each other's eyes for a brief moment before Ramona switches topics, informing him that the New France Rite has been mostly eradicated thanks to their efforts, minus Grand Master Couture. Küpeyakwüskonam assures her that Couture will die by his hand, effectively purging New France of the Templars. Before she leaves, Küpeyakwüskonam offers Ramona back the hidden blade she'd gifted him six years prior but she simply tells him to keep it, as a reminder of her to which he assures her he'll never forget her.
Ramona then begins to board the ship before stopping, she quickly runs back and kisses Küpeyakwüskonam who reciprocates before properly boarding the ship as it departs. Küpeyakwüskonam watches as Ramona and the ship disappear into the distance.
Some time later, Küpeyakwüskonam returns to his village and is seen burying the Eden Engine on the land of his village. Meanwhile, some months later, Ramona arrives in Paris where she buries an Eden Engine in Champ de Mars and gives the other the Assassin Brotherhood for safekeeping.
Horatio and Leah exit the animus and without having to discuss what they found with the others, all prepare to split up and recover the Eden Engines.
Issue 9[]
The Assassins are accompanied by Leah, Berg and Sigma Team to Champ de Mars with the plan of flying over to the Algohoma District in Northeastern Ontario, once they recover the Eden Engine in France. The Assassins and Templars arrive in Paris 7 hours later at 1:00am, making their way over to Champ de Mars Horatio finds a dug up hole where the Eden Engine is supposed to be. The group are horrified to realise that they have been beaten in recovering the Eden Engine, Jason rationalises this and comments that the Eden Engine they recovered in Cuba was safely hidden but Berg refutes this, stating that the revived Isu are just as dangerous with two.
Suddenly, Horatio's precognitive Eagle Vision is triggered when he begins loud ominous whispering, alerting the others that the Isu are still here. Following this, Sigma Team members who suddenly kill themselves. They are then met by North, Shakuru and the remaining Isu clad in armor and wielding Swords and Apples of Eden. Shakuru mocks the two groups, calling their war pathetic and miniscule in the grand scheme of the Isu's resurgence, and it was this very reason as to why they needed to be wiped out.
Horatio asks how it is they located the other Eden Engines to which North reveals that D'aureville was a reborn Isu and he was able to access his past memories much faster than an animus. Leah comments on how that doesn't explain how they managed to find the Eden Engines specifically. North reveals to the Assassins and Templars that during D'aureville's fight with Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona, the explosion that occurred when Küpeyakwüskonam separated the Eden Engines, D'aureville was granted a vision of the Eden Engines across time, including where they would be in 2022. Shakuru then adds that they also recovered the second Engine in Canada, confirming they have two now.
Shakuru then activates the Apple of Eden which she uses on the Assassins in an effort to make them kill themselves, however, due to Horatio's high concentration of Isu genes, he is able to resist its effects. Picking up a pistol from one of the dead Sigma Team members, he shoots at Shakuru but a Ring of Eden she is carrying prevents her from being shot, however, it was enough to break her concentration on the Apple. The others are broken from their compelling and Horatio urges them to rid themselves of all their weapons so the Isu cannot compell them to commit suicide.
Berg refuses revealing that Abstergo had created a prototype device that protected humans from the effects of Apples, using it on himself and Leah they aid Horatio in his fight against North and the others. Weaponless, Hayley aids them as well. Meanwhile, Jason and Erica are forced to remain on the sidelines as they aren't field operatives. During the skirmish, Horatio and Leah were able to remove an Eden Engine from North and Jason and Erica are able to recover it, fleeing toward Dupleix. North and Shakuru give chase with Horatio and Hayley following suit after Berg elects to remain behind and handle the other Isu, ordering Leah to follow the Assassins.
Issue 10[]
Jason and Erica are cornered in the subway station by North and Shakuru. Shakuru demands that they hand over the Eden Engine to which they refuse, North activates his Apple of Eden and begins to compel them to hand it over. Once they do Shakuru takes both Eden Engines and begins to fuse them together. Erica tells her that without the third, she will be unable to fully utilise the power of the Eden Engines. Shakuru agrees but states that once the fusion process is complete, she and North will be able to decimate humanity - it will only take a little longer.
Horatio, Hayley and Leah arrive and resume their fight against the reborn Isu and his lover. Hayley and Leah manage to disarm both North and Shakuru of their Apples, and Jason and Erica are able to kick them away, keeping them out of the Isu's grasp.
During this fight, the Eden Engine inches closer and closer to merging - Erica theorises that the energy generated from the complete union of the two Eden Engines was enough to completely wipe out France. North elects to stay behind to ensure that the Eden Engines unification is successful, hesitant at first Shakuru agrees and promises him that his sacrifice will not be in vain before quickly knocking down Hayley before preparing to flee. However, she is stopped by Leah with the Templar slicing at her throat with a knife, Shakuru drops to the floor, gargling on her own blood before dying. Enraged at the death of his lover, North attacks Leah but Horatio steps in, engaging him briefly once more before assassinating him, killing him for good. Watching as the reborn Isu dies, Horatio reminds him that that was for his father.
The Eden Engines are close to completing their unification when the surrounding area begins to rumble, showing signs of an impending earthquake. Horatio tells the members of his team to flee, reminding them that his Isu genetics will be able to separate the Eden Engines and if he was unable to, they would all have a head start at making their escape. Hayley, Jason and Erica initially refuse but Horatio manages to convince them that its the right thing to do, and that they need to go on to fight another day. Hayley tells Horatio that she loves him with him reciprocating.
Leah and the other Assassins make their way to the exit with Leah telling the others to escape before Berg calls for reinforcements, offering to lie to the Master Templar and say that they escaped during the chaos. Jason asks why she, a Templar, would do this with Leah stating that she'd seen enough death for one day. With that, the Assassins flee into the night as Hayley struggles to keep her bearings knowing that the love of her life is about to sacrifice his life.
Back in Dupleix, Horatio begins to forcibly separate the Eden Engines. Preparing for the inevitable, Horatio recounts his life and the relationships he made and comes to accept his fate knowing that he helped save the world and France. Closing his eyes, Horatio successfully pulls apart the two Eden Engines as the resulting action creates a large feedback that causes the Dupleix subway to collapse in on itself.
Hayley, Jason and Erica see the Dupleix collapse and know that Horatio has perished. Hayley begins crying and is quickly comforted by Jason and Erica. Meanwhile, Leah witnesses the same and hangs her head low before she is met by Berg. He asks what happened and where the Assassins were, Leah lies to him telling him that the others fled in the chaos but Horatio sacrificed himself to stop the Eden Engines. Acknowledging this, Berg calls in an Abstergo recovery unit to collect the two Eden Engines and search for Horatio's body, mentioning that his genetic memory may be useful.
Issue 11[]
A week has passed since Horatio's death and Leah is at an Abstergo facility in North America. She is overlooking the data from Horatio's genetic memories that were uploaded to the Abstergo Cloud, feeling an immense regret at how Horatio's memories were being exploited despite his sacrifice. Leah overhears some Abstergo executives discussing on what will be done with the samples recovered from Horatio, revealing that they plan to launch an initiative similar to the Sample 17 Project in order to locate Pieces of Eden that his ancestors may have recovered or interacted with in the past, or at the very least find suitable material for Helix programs, feature films, and other related content.
Bothered by what she is hearing, Leah makes her way to the animus facility where she enters a HR-8 with Ramona's DNA uploaded and interpreted onto it. In order to distract herself from the guilt she is feeling, Leah begins reliving Ramona's later memories in order to satisfy her curiosity on what happened to the Assassin following her time in New France.
Leah's time in the animus is shown as a sequence of montages showcasing Ramona's promotion to Master Assassin, meeting and marrying another Assassin, the birth of her child before ending with Ramona in the twilight years of her life in 1740. Ramona is in her home, pondering on her time in New France as she reminisces on her ill-fated romance with Küpeyakwüskonam, wondering where he is, how he is, and if he managed to settle down too. Ramona, internally, admits that she loves her husband deeply - she will always have love for Küpeyakwüskonam, wondering what a life with him would have been like.
Meanwhile, aboard the Altaïr II. Hayley is seen in the bathroom as she is about to leave, ready to join the funeral about to be held for both Horatio and Arnold. A great many Assassin cells have rendezvoused to pay their respect to both Pierces. Hayley meets up with Jason and Erica who go to find Jennifer who is still distraught, Hayley comforts Jennifer as she assures her that her son's sacrificed helped save France from destruction as well as humanity. Commenting on how his unwavering faith and hope in humanity is what led him to his decision.
Following the funeral's events, Hayley is met by William Miles who expresses his condolences. Hayley asks William for permission to recover Horatio's body from Abstergo as well as destroy the data that Abstergo no doubt have harvested from his body. William agrees.
