Macquettoquet (born 1672) was a Néhinaw warrior and hunter of the Mōsonī community. Macquettoquet was the cousin and childhood friend of Küpeyakwüskonam and husband of Sâkowêw.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Macquettoquet was born and raised in a band on a plot of land called Nîpîy, located in what would become known as the Algoma District, Northeastern Ontario. This band neighboured another Mōsonī band whom would regularly come together to socialise and hunt. Among this tribe was Sâkowêw, whom would one day go on to become his wife, but at the time of their childhood they were close friends and unbenknownst to him, his younger cousin and childhood friend, Küpeyakwüskonam was in love with her.

In 1683, at the age of eleven, Macquettoquet, Küpeyakwüskonam and Sâkowêw would have their first encounter with French soldiers. They were physically assaulted by the armed men who were in search for their bands, believing them to be members of the Iroquois as hostilities had resumed between the two groups. The French soldiers located their band, bringing the three back and attacking their home soon after.

During the attack, Macquettoquet fled to safety and witnessed the deaths of many people in his village - including his aunt. Following the attack, like his cousin, Macquettoquet was left with a deep-seated distrust of the European settlers.

10 years later, Macquettoquet and his cousin's bond had grown stronger since surviving the attack on their village. However, Küpeyakwüskonam had grown restless at the continued European expansion through their land, as well as the current war that raged on between the other tribes.

Worried that both events would effect the sanctity of his band, he desired to go off and push back against these threats, whereas Macquettoquet wanted to remain and defend the village.

Eventually Küpeyakwüskonam would be granted leave from the village in order to defend it from the continued expansion of European settlers.

Return of the French[]

Macquettoquet remained behind to defend the village, during this time he developed romantic feelings for Sâkowêw. The two would eventually marry and have a child, a son, in 1695.

That same year, Küpeyakwüskonam would return home accompanied by a European woman, the Assassin Ramona Lucia. Küpeyakwüskonam he returned to warn his people that a French general and Templar named Stéphane D’aureville who was on his way to the village in search of a Piece of Eden, which would likely lead to another attack on the village. Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona devised a plan to defend the village, and the next day Macquettoquet aided his cousin in defending their home.

However, tragedy would strike when an Eden Engine carried by D'aureville overloaded and destroyed a quarter of their village, killing his uncle Mahikan in the process.

Over the next few days, their village would hold a funeral and wake in honour of those that were killed in the explosion. Before Küpeyakwüskonam left once again, Macquettoquet wished him luck on his journey.
