Io:nhiòte, better known as Mary Kenway to most people, is a member of the Mohawk tribe and also the American Brotherhood of Assassins. She's the daughter of Connor Kenway, an assassin who grew to prominence during the American Revolutionary War and who was notable for helping transform the Colonial Assassins into the American Assassins. Mary was born after said transformation, and while Connor initially wished to keep her far away from his bloody path, she eventually ended up joining in her mid teens when he was captured and she rescued him. Since her identity was already out there, he decided to train her to become a master assassin like him. With his training, she quickly rose to the rank of master by her early 30s. As an assassin, she helped in many American conflicts, the two most notable being the War of 1812 and the American Civil War. She was killed on a mission towards the end of the civil war.
Mary Kenway is the oldest of twelve siblings, and all of them became assassins, largely due to Mary herself choosing to go down that path first. By the time of the Civil War, all twelve of them, and several of their children, have become as renowned in the Brotherhood as Connor himself, or close to it. Her siblings include nine brothers and two sisters. They are Jonathan Kenway, Bill Kenway, Judas Kenway, Bob Kenway, Robert Kenway, Jacob Kenway, Jordan Kenway, Jared Kenway, Michael Kenway, Elizabeth Kenway, and Sarah Kenway. Her mother, who is unnamed, died in childbirth, so her and her siblings never got to meet her.
