Patrick Burke, VC (1890 - 1931) was an Irish army officer and a resistance fighter who served under Michael Collins and Eamon de Valera during the Irish Civil War, but also Burke served in WW1 where he took part in the Gallipoli Campaign and the Battle of the Somme. During the battle of the Somme, Burke save five Irish soldiers and a British officer, for his bravery, Burke received the Victoria Cross on the 16th of November, by General Douglas Haig and shortly after returned home. During the Irish Civil War, Burke conducted guerilla movements against the British Army in Belfast, due to this, Burke became a wanted man so he and his family fled Ireland and immigrated to New Orleans, Louisiana in the United States. In 1931, Burke suffered a heart attack and would passed away.
