Stéphane D'aureville (1649 - 1700) was a human reincarnation of the Isu Pah, a general in the New France military, and a high-ranking member of the Templar Order.
D'aureville led the search for the Eden Engines in the latter half of the 17th century in hopes of carefully using its power to unlock the Conservatory and reunite with Shakuru. Which led to the orchestration of the Iroquois Wars, playing both sides of the conflict in order to locate the Eden Engines. His search for the Eden Engines led him to come into conflict with the Spanish-French Assassin Ramona Lucia and the Néhinaw warrior Küpeyakwüskonam.
As designed by Pah, his consciousness was to reincarnate within the same bloodline making D'aureville a descendant of the Roman Hidden One Livius and an ancestor of the rogue Templar Kyle North.
Biography[]
Early life[]
D'aureville was born in Marseille, France into a noble household. From an early age, he was perceived as 'gifted', having learned to walk and talk before being a year old. Throughout his childhood and adolescence, he was plagued of visions and dreams of another life and felt a compulsion to find a white haired woman.
Upon reaching adulthood, these dreams and visions began to subside and D'aureville would enlist in the French military. Rising up through the ranks, he eventually would come into contact with the France Rite of Templars through. Having been raised to believe himself better than lower-class society, as well as having witnessed its barbaric nature, D'aureville's beliefs aligned with that of the Templars - that true peace could be achieved through controlling humanity.
Over the course of his time as a Templar and learning of the Precursors, encountering their technology, began to re-trigger the dreams and visions he experienced during his childhood, but at a much fiercer intensity and more frequently. Eventually, D'aureville's consciouss was completely overidden by the memories and experiences of the Isu Pah.
Mission to unlock the Conservatory[]
With Pah's personality manifesting in D'aureville, he eventually reclaimed the memories of his past lives too which included that of the most prominent one, the Roman Hidden One Livius. D'aureville remembered the life of his Roman ancestor and past incarnation, including his duel with the Viking Ari Einarrson in the Conservatory and his death.
Remembering that Magni had something to do with his inability to access the Stasis Chambers inside, D'aureville began working on ways to access it. Using his Templar influence, D'aureville began scouring the world for Pieces of Eden that could potentially unlock the Stasis Chamber under the guise of recovering Precursor artifacts to further the Templar cause.
Over the years, D'aureville amassed a collection of Precursor artifacts which consisted of Apples, Rings, Swords, Staves, Crystal Balls, Memory Seals, armor and more. However, none of these were able to interface and unlock the Conservatory. Eventually, his attention turned to the Eden Engines when he learned of their existence - hearing that they were capable of immense power which included destroying and recreating the world. D'aureville pondered that, with his Isu genes, he could compel the Eden Engines to release a concentrated amount of energy and use its destructive and restorative capabilities to grant himself access to the Conservatory.
Under the guise of searching for the Eden Engines to advance Templar goals and power, D'aureville was assigned to locate these Engines and he began his search in the French colony of New France in North America, having learned that the Pieces of Eden may be located there.
Prior to 1693, D'aureville fathered at least one child in France.
Search for the Eden Engines[]
The First[]
D'aureville travelled to New France and had communed with the Grand Master of New France, Guillaume Couture. Informing him of all the possible leads he had amassed, Couture would order the members of the Templar Order to aid D'aureville in locating the Eden Engines. After some years of searching, as well as researching Isu scripture with the help of Pah's memories, D'aureville was able to decipher that the Eden Engines were hidden among three indigenous tribes - however, he was not aware of where and which tribes.
For the next few years, alongside fellow Templars which included the Mohawk War Chief Canaqueese, D'aureville began a campaign of raiding indigenous villages under the guise of advancing the Military of New France's influence over the current war with the Iroquois, also orchestrated by the Templars. With the influence of the Templars, D'aureville was made a general in the New France military to better orchestrate his search - thanks to his prior military record, his promotion to general was well-received.
In 1694, D'aureville alongside Canaqueese raided a Seneca village that had information leading to the location of an Eden Engine. However, they came into conflict with the Assassins Louis Chaput and Ramona Lucia who were aided by the Cree warrior Küpeyakwüskonam. Amidst the attack, Canaqueese was killed by Küpeyakwüskonam and Chaput was killed during D'aureville's escape from the two Assassins. D'aureville successfully managed to retrieve the information he needed before fleeing the scene of the attack At some point prior to 1695, D'aureville managed to acquire an Eden Engine, continuing his search for the final two.
In 1695, his search led him to a Cree village, the home of Küpeyakwüskonam. Initially, the Cree warrior Mahikan attempted to negotiate with D'aureville but it was all a ploy to distract him long enough to be assassinated by Lucia and Küpeyakwüskonam. When this failed, an all out skirmish broke out which resulted in the Eden Engine's energy overloading and releasing a small burst of power, nearly destroying Küpeyakwüskonam's village. When D'aureville came to, he once again fled before Lucia could get to him.
The Second[]
2 years later, D'aureville managed to locate the second Eden Engine near a Huron village in west Ontario. D'aureville informs Couture of this in Québec before making his way to the Eden Engine, unbenknownst to him Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona Lucia were listening in on their discussion - also learning of the Eden Engine's whereabouts. However, before departing D'aureville brings his Sword of Eden with him on the journey west.
Some days later, D'aureville locates the temple where the Eden Engine is said to be located but finds that his enemies have already acquired it. D'aureville immediately attakcs them shooting Küpeyakwüskonam with an energy blast from the Isu weapon. Ramona shoots her revolver at D'aureville but the Templar Sage instantly translocates behind Ramona. She reacts quickly and evades a fatal attack from D'aureville, before engaging him with her rapier. During their duel, Küpeyakwüskonam struggles to get back to his feet but draws his bow and shoots an arrow at D'aureville. Striking his shoulder, D'aureville translocates to Küpeyakwüskonam and strikes at his chest with the Sword of Eden, intending for him to suffer and bleed out.
Ramona attempts to charge D'aureville but she is knocked back by another energy blast from D'aureville's Sword of Eden and is knocked out. D'aureville then retrieves the second Eden Engine and uses their combined power, triggers a small earthquake and in-turn a small tsunami that follows and escapes.
Death[]
Another 2 years later, D'aureville locates the third Eden Engine in an Isu temple located in Pachena Bay. On January 26 1700, D'aureville finds the Eden Engine and retrieves it. Now in posession of all three, D'aureville begins the process of unifying the Eden Engines in order to test its capabilities, however he is once more discovered by Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona Lucia, who's presence he senses due to the powers granted to him by the Eden Engines.
D'aureville immediately attacks them with energy from the Eden Engines.
D'aureville proclaims that he will not be stopped and that he will use the power of the Eden Engines to reunite with his loved one, ignoring his ramblings Küpeyakwüskonam and Ramona devise a plan with the Assassin keeping D'aureville distracted while the Cree warrior separates the Eden Engines. Enacting their plan, Ramona evades D'aureville's energy based attacks while Küpeyakwüskonam sneaks around to get to the Eden Engines. Upon reaching the Eden Engines, Küpeyakwüskonam begins to forcibly separate the three Pieces of Eden.
Due to the high count of Isu genes in his DNA, Küpeyakwüskonam is able to interface with the Eden Engines and begin removing them. As he does so, he is plagued with a series of recordings encoded into the Eden Engines, appearing to him as visions, Küpeyakwüskonam witnesses the creation of the Eden Engines by Isu scientists and learns of its origins and why they were hidden. At the conclusion of these visions, Küpeyakwüskonam successfully separates the Eden Engines which cause a discharge of energy. The energy grants D'aureville a vision of the Eden Engine's past, present and future, including where it will be located within 400 years time.
The resulting explosion also causes the temple to lose its structure and begin to collapse, as well as removing D'aureville's temporary gain in power. Recovering their bearings, D'aureville, Küpeyakwüskonam, and Ramona flee the temple as its collapsing around them. Before beginning his escape however, Küpeyakwüskonam brings the three Eden Engines with him. The trio manage to successfully escape the temple and the cave that leads inside it as the entire cave becomes closed off as a result of the temple's destruction. D'aureville unsheathes his Sword of Eden and attacks the pair once more, claiming that even if they kill him, it won't stop him. Confused at what he is talking about, the warrior and Assassin continue to ignore him, fighting him back.
Their fight draws the attention of the Huu-ay-aht people who's village is close by. During their fight, D'aureville manages to land a strike on Küpeyakwüskonam which inadvertanly ripples into one of the Eden Engine's he is carrying, forcing it to send off a seismic blast. The surrounding seismic blast begins to cause an earthquake which reaches all the way out into the Cascadia subduction zone. In the chaos of the earthquake, Ramona manages to successfully assassinate D'aureville who before dying reminds them that they still have not stopped him.
Personality and traits[]
D'aureville's status as a reincarnation of Pah provided him with disdain for humanity, desperately wishing to reunite with Shakuru and his other fellow Isu trapped in stasis. This desire borderlined on obsession however, as soon as D'aureville could access Pah's and his other past lives' memories, including Livius', his sole purpose was to find a way to access the Conservatory and the Stasis Chamber that lie within.
This obsession also went hand-in-hand with his determination, leading him on a global search to require various Pieces of Eden that could potentially unlock the Conservatory, but to no avail. His persistance would lead to him learning of the existence of the Eden Engines, igniting his obsession with locating it.
D'aureville was also manipulative, using the Templars and their resources for his own personal gain, influencing them by coaxing their desire to acquire Pieces of Eden to further their power in the world.
Prior to having his consiousness consumed by Pah's memories, D'aureville had a superiority complex as a direct result of his upbringing and social status. D'aureville truly believed himself to be better than most which led him into the arms of the Templar Order, D'aureville's ego led him to believe that it was his right to force humanity into cooperation and peace amongst themselves.
