Dr. Vedasto Driz Ibarra is the primary antagonist of the modern-day storyline in Assassin's Creed: Pearl of the East. He is a high-ranking researcher and scientist for the Abstergo Foundation in Manila, a modern front for the Templar Order. Ibarra is the direct overseer of the Animus project that has captured the protagonist, Andrew Janea.

Character Overview[]

Ibarra is depicted as a cruel, calculating, and volatile scientist who stops at nothing to achieve his objectives. He serves as the face of the Templar operation, managing the Animus experiments and the imprisonment of several Assassins, including Andrew (Subject 26), Serafin, and Chandra. His primary goal is to use Andrew to access the genetic memories of his ancestor, Habagat, and locate a Piece of Eden (the Golden Kampilan).

Assassin's Creed: Conquest[]

Introduction and Coercion[]

Ibarra is introduced when Andrew Janea awakens in the Abstergo facility. He coldly informs Andrew, whom he refers to as "Subject 26," that he is part of an experiment. To ensure compliance, Ibarra immediately resorts to coercion, threatening to harm Andrew's family if he does not cooperate with the Animus sessions.

Project Oversight and Instability[]

Ibarra personally oversees the Animus project. He expresses immense frustration over technical malfunctions when Andrew's session desynchronizes after the Battle of Mactan. His volatility is further. Suspecting an "inside job" among the prisoners, he halts the Animus operation to conduct a full inspection. During a tense confrontation, he throws a hot cup of coffee at Andrew, demonstrating his abusive nature and disdain for the "subjects."

Final Confrontation[]

During the Assassins' escape attempt, Ibarra personally confronts Andrew, Serafin, and Chandra in a hidden dungeon within the facility. He reveals his ultimate weapons: a squad of AI robots disguised as Assassins.

Ibarra mocks Chandra, revealing that these same robots were responsible for ambushing and killing her team a decade prior, an event that also led to the death of Andrew's father, Jericho Janea. Ibarra deploys the robots to eliminate the escaping prisoners, though the Assassins ultimately manage to destroy the machines and find an exit, leaving Ibarra's fate unresolved as they flee the facility.
